First trip to Lake Clifton and was surprised what we found in this national park. Thrombolites and a walking trial that leads to one of the Mandurah Giants. Images taken with a DJI Mavic 3 drone.

The main difference is internal structure: stromatolites are layered (laminated), while thrombolites have a clotted (non-laminated) internal structure. Both are types of microbialites formed by microorganisms, but stromatolites' distinct layers come from the microbes moving upward and trapping sediment. Thrombolites, on the other hand, have a clot-like internal texture, which is also associated with microbial activity but lacks the organized, layered growth.

The Breakaways is located on the Hyden-Norseman Road, Norseman, about 135kms and 1.5 hours drive away from Hyde on unsealed road. When we went there in 2022, it was a long long straight drive on unsealed road that seems to go on forever! Taken with Canon R5 & RF24-75mm f2.8 lens at f16, ISO 100 and 64mm on a tripod. There is over a hundred salt lakes and swamps in and around Cranbrook. The pink lake shown above is so close to the road that  we could stopped our car and went down to collect some salt samples from the lake. Flew the drone up to take panoramic shots of the area, mainly taking bracketed shots of 3 each and stitching them in PS Lightroom. Taken from a DJI Mavic 3 drone at F5 and ISO 100 and using bracketed shots of 3.
